RepRap is a free and open-source 3D printer design. It is the first of its kind to be able to print most of its own components. The RepRap project was started at Bath University in 2005 by Adrian Bowyer, who was troubled by high costs for low-quality plastic products, and the environmental and social costs of mass production. RepRap is a self-replicating machine – each printer is capable of reproducing itself by printing most of its own parts.
The 3D Printer That Prints 3D Printers
RepRap is a free and open-source 3D printer design. It is the first of its kind to be able to print most of its own components and is the basis for many other free 3D printer designs. The name is a recursive acronym for “replicating rapid prototyper”.
